Exterior Foundation Waterproofing & Drainage Upgrade
Exterior foundation waterproofing with a drainage membrane, gravel backfill, and a refreshed stone entry landing to protect the home long-term.

Overview
Water around the foundation is one of the most common causes of basement moisture and long-term structural issues.
For this project, we completed an exterior foundation waterproofing upgrade with a drainage membrane system and proper backfill, then finished the space with a refreshed stone entry landing.
Concept
Do it once, do it right:
- protect the foundation wall with exterior waterproofing
- manage water with drainage + gravel backfill
- restore curb appeal with a clean, durable entry finish
Scope of Work
- Excavation along the foundation wall (as required)
- Foundation wall surface prep and waterproofing application
- Drainage membrane (dimple board) installation for protection + water channeling
- Drainage routing / weeping tile integration (as required)
- Gravel backfill for drainage performance
- Rebuild/refresh of the entry landing using natural stone (flagstone)
- Final grading and cleanup
Highlights
- Exterior waterproofing first: addresses water at the source, not only inside finishes
- Drainage membrane protection: helps channel moisture down and protects the coating from backfill damage
- Cleaner water management: gravel + drainage detail improves performance around the foundation
- Finished look restored: new stone landing ties the area together and improves curb appeal
Materials & Finishes
- Waterproofing: exterior foundation coating (type selected per conditions)
- Membrane: dimple drainage board / protection layer
- Drainage: gravel backfill and drainage routing (as required)
- Finish: natural stone (flagstone) landing
Result
A protected foundation zone designed for long-term durability, improved water control, and a refreshed entry finish that looks clean and intentional.
FAQ
What’s the difference between waterproofing and “damp-proofing”?
Waterproofing focuses on preventing water intrusion under pressure, while damp-proofing is more limited. Exterior systems typically perform best when combined with drainage.
Do you always need weeping tile?
Not always. It depends on site conditions, existing drainage, and where the water is collecting. We recommend what makes sense once the foundation is exposed.
Why add a drainage membrane over the coating?
The membrane helps protect the waterproofing layer during backfill and provides a path for moisture to move downward toward drainage.
